Joan Ellenbogen

1973-1974

Joan Ellenbogen graduated from NYU Law School and was admitted to practice in 1965. With Marcia Goldstein, she formed Ellenbogen and Goldstein, P.C., with a practice limited to matrimonial and family law. She was a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a Diplomate in the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, a member of the Joint Committee on Judicial Administration, a member of the Commission on Judicial Nominations to the Court of Appeals, and the first woman to chair the New York City Bar’s Executive Committee. She was a member of the First Department Disciplinary Committee, served on the Board of Trustees of the Legal Aid Society, and was listed in Best Lawyers in America. She was a Founder and the first President of WBASNY, and the WBASNY Founders Award has been renamed in her honor.  She was also a founder of the National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations. She passed away in 2001.
