NYWBA’s Animal Law Committee presents a CLE Program:
Activist Defense:
What Happens When Doing the Right Thing Can Land You in Jail?
This panel will focus on strategies for defending activists. It will identify various crimes with which activists can be charged and discuss recent cases, including charges brought against a sanctuary in upstate New York, and the “Smithfield Trial” in which two animal activists were acquitted of rescuing sick piglets from a factory farm in Utah.
Speakers: Chris Carraway, Director of the Animal Activist Legal Defense Project at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law; and Mariann Sullivan, Adjunct Professor of Animal Law at Cornell Law School, host of the Animal Law podcast, and co-host of the Our Hen House podcast.
